2017 Civic hatchback — 40 years stronger than ever

Honda (www.hondabook.ru/en) is taking a huge step forward with the tenth generation of the Civic hatchback. This is the largest model ever developed by the company.

Wonderful appearance

The proportional silhouette of the model is a real request for the sporty character of the car. The Civic is wider, longer and shorter than any of its predecessors. It also has a noticeably more aggressive face, pronounced fender flares, and a well defined front and rear.

Brand new platform

From the very beginning, the new Civic (www.hondabook.ru/en/Civic) was created agile and dynamic. Lightweight construction, an extremely durable coupé, a lower center of gravity and a new suspension system all promise an extremely fun driving experience.

The fuel tank has been relocated, making the floor lower than the current model. The center of gravity is lowered by 10mm, the lateral hips are lowered by 35mm, so the Civic feels even sportier. The tenth generation is 16 kg lighter than the previous one, but 52% more resistant to twisting.

As a result of all the improvements, the overall rigidity of the body has increased by 65% compared to the previous generation.

VTEC TURBO — new turbocharged petrol engines

With the tenth Civic, two brand new gasoline engines will debut, specifically designed for economical driving.

Honda Sensing for all levels

The Honda Sensing safety system is now standard on all equipment levels.

The most agile and dynamic Civic

The high-link MacPherson strut front suspension provides high lateral stability with linear steering. The rear is a true multi-link suspension with a new rigid subframe that improves stability and comfort.

The tenth generation Civic is equipped with new turbocharged gasoline engines of the VTEC TURBO family. One is a 3-cylinder 1.0-litre engine and the other is a 4-cylinder 1.5-litre. The hatchback will be the first model Honda will offer with them in Europe. Both transmissions can be combined with either a 6-speed manual or CVT with 7 simulated gears.

In combination with a manual transmission, the three-cylinder one-liter engine has a torque of 200 Nm at 2250 rpm and correspondingly 180 Nm M, 1700-4500 rpm when using the CVT. Its maximum power is 129 hp. (95 kW), available at 5500 rpm.

The four-cylinder 1.5-liter powertrain outperforms the current 1.8-liter VTEC. Its maximum power is 182 hp. (134 kW) at 5500 rpm (6000 rpm on CVT). Similarly, the maximum torque is 240 Nm in the range of 1900 — 5000 rpm in the version with a manual transmission and 220 Nm at 1700 — 5500 rpm when it is with a CVT.

Best-in-class interior space and trunk

The new Civic reaffirms its reputation as the C-Class leader in interior space and cargo space with a 30mm longer wheelbase. In addition, visibility is improved as the A-pillar is narrowed by 9mm for a best-in-class viewing angle of 84.3 degrees.

The backs of the front seats have increased by 10 mm, and the distance between the front seats has increased by 30 mm. Second row passengers get 20mm more shoulder room and 95mm more legroom. The sense of space and light is enhanced by the presence of a panoramic roof, available for higher equipment levels.

Trunk volume is also the leader in the class — 478 liters. The rear seats fold and split in a 60:40 ratio, which gives additional opportunities for transporting cargo of non-standard sizes. A hidden area under the floor of the car provides additional storage space, which is not the case with the Sport versions.

Technological center console

The center console is finished in black lacquer (black piano) and is decorated under the motto «technological center».

The lower part in front of the gear lever is configured as a place with two separate levels for storing things and mostly personal electronic devices. In older versions of the equipment, the first section of this niche has a built-in charger for smartphones. Through a special opening in the center console, all cables of smart devices pass from one niche level to another.

At the top of the center console is the Honda Connect 7-inch color tactile display.

Next Generation Honda Connect

The Honda Connect infotainment system is now compatible with Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto.

Thus, all functions of your mobile phone can be transferred to the car. Drivers can receive navigation instructions, make calls or receive messages, and listen to music with a touch of the car’s touch screen or voice commands. Supported CarPlay apps include phone, messaging, maps, music and more. CarPlay is compatible with iOS 8.4 and later and iPhone 5 and later.

Thanks to Android Auto, drivers can use their smartphones very intuitively on board the Civic. The Honda Connect can also be ordered with Garmin navigation. Vehicle audio configuration options range from 160W with four speakers, 180W with eight speakers, to 465W with 11.

Even safer with Honda Sensing standard for all levels

The new Civic is expected to receive the highest safety rating in EuroNCAP tests, not only because of its structural stability. As standard, all versions will be equipped with the Honda Sensing passive and active safety system, which uses information from cameras, radars and sensors to warn the driver or correct his mistake with the help of various safety assistants. It includes a number of sub-systems such as Collision Avoidance System, Lane Departure Warning System, Lane Keeping Assistance System), Adaptive Cruise Control, Traffic Sign Recognition System, Intelligent Speed Assist,

The tenth generation Civic will be built at Honda’s plant in Sundan, UK, from where the model will be available to all markets.
